Accessibility at Ivy Maths
Making maths easier to access, read and learn.
Ivy Maths is designed to give students greater independence in their education. That includes making the platform comfortable to use for students with different reading abilities, learning needs and personal preferences.
We recognise that the way information is presented can make a considerable difference to how easily a student understands and engages with their work. Our accessibility features give students more control over how they read questions, follow lessons and complete learning activities.
Reading Tools
Students can adjust the presentation of questions and learning content to suit their preferences. These options are designed to support students with dyslexia, visual stress, reading difficulties, attention and processing differences, as well as anyone who finds an alternative reading layout more comfortable.

A notebook costs £3.50 and a pencil costs 75p.
How much do they cost altogether?
Add the pounds and pence carefully. Remember that 100 pence makes one pound.
Background colours
Choose from a selection of soft background colours, including cream, pale blue, soft green and grey, to create a more comfortable reading environment.
Text size and spacing
Adjust text size, line spacing and the presentation of written questions to make instructions easier to read and follow.
Read aloud
Listen to supported questions and learning content in English, with options to pause, replay and adjust the reading speed. Quick Lessons also feature English read-aloud audio, allowing students to listen as they work through explanations and examples.
Reading focus
Highlight individual sentences or sections of a question to help maintain reading position and reduce visual distractions.
Simplified question display
Concentrate on one question at a time, with unnecessary screen elements reduced so students can focus on the work in front of them.
Visual and display preferences
Additional options include reduced motion and alternative contrast settings.
Your Preferences, Your Choice
Reading Tools are available directly within supported learning and practice activities. Students can make adjustments whenever they need to, without leaving their work or restarting a question.
Signed-in students can save their preferences so the same settings are applied when they return. Parents can also help students choose suitable settings.
These tools are available without requiring students to disclose a disability or learning difficulty.
Accessibility During Assessments
Students should be able to adjust the appearance of assessment questions without changing the mathematical knowledge being assessed.
Reading and display preferences are kept separate from teaching assistance, such as hints, worked solutions and explanations. The availability of audio and other support during an assessment may depend on the assessment’s rules.
Independent Learning for More Students
Ivy Maths brings curriculum-aligned lessons, practice, assessments and learning resources together in one environment. Accessibility features support this approach by allowing students to work with information in a format they find easier to follow.
The aim is to make it easier for students to access mathematical knowledge, develop their understanding and take greater responsibility for their learning, with support available when they need it.
Help Us Improve
We are continually working to improve the accessibility and usability of Ivy Maths. If you encounter a difficulty using the platform, accessing a question, reading mathematical content or navigating a feature with assistive technology, please contact us.
Feedback from students, parents and educators helps us identify where improvements are needed and make the platform more accessible.
Accessibility is an ongoing part of developing Ivy Maths, and we welcome suggestions that help us improve the learning experience.
