How Ivy Maths Began
Our Story
The question we could not answer for our own children, and the platform we built to answer it.
Ivy Maths began with research in 2023, during our own homeschooling journey as a travelling family.
For several years, our children have been growing up between countries, cultures, routines and different learning environments. Their education hasn’t always followed a conventional path, but we still needed to know that they were making progress and staying aligned with the UK National Curriculum. One question kept coming up:
Where are the children against the UK curriculum?
We could see their schoolwork and talk to their teachers, but we couldn’t see the whole picture. We didn’t know which skills were secure, where the gaps were, or whether they were ready to move on. Then we started noticing just how different their needs were.
One of our children seemed to be ahead of the work being covered in school and was becoming bored. The other was struggling with areas that weren’t being picked up in the classroom. Parent-teacher meetings once a term gave us useful information, but they only ever gave us a snapshot. We needed a deeper understanding in order to help each child effectively.
So we built the visibility we were missing. We built Ivy Maths.
We spent the next two years researching, developing and testing Ivy Maths before launching the platform to other families in 2025. We’ve seen first-hand how visibility can impact a student’s progress.
The focus is not simply on a student’s year level. It is on understanding where they are, identifying what they need next, and measuring how they progress over time. Ivy Maths provides the insight and support needed to help students move forward with confidence.
We believe in sharing the Ivy Maths platform so much that the foundation access to the learning and practice material is entirely free for students to use.
