Rhia is 12 years old and in Year 7. She was doing well at school, and nobody had a reason to think she should be doing anything different.
After taking an Ivy Assessment, her results showed that she was working beyond her year group and ready for greater challenge. The report recommended a more demanding programme built on what she could already do.
Six months later she is studying Year 10 maths, three years beyond her year group.
1. What the Assessment Saw
An adaptive assessment does not stop at the year group a student is in. When Rhia answered securely, it kept going, and it kept going for a long time. That is how it found a working level three years above the one on her timetable.
The report turned that into a programme rather than a number: the topics she was ready for, in the order that builds them, with practice at each step.
