Multiplication
Definition
Times tables are the multiplication facts for each number. In Year 3 you learn the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
Why Do I Have to Learn This?
Multiplying is a fast way of adding the same number again and again. It helps with times tables, sharing fairly and working out costs quickly.
Key Rules:
- 1. Learn each table by counting in equal steps.
- 2. Multiplication can be done in any order.
- 3. Use a known fact to find a nearby one.
Remember:
- •The 4 times table is double the 2 times table.
- •8 times a number is double the 4 times answer.
- •Knowing 3 × 6 also tells you 6 × 3.
Array
Objects set out in rows and columns, used to show multiplication.
